OK, ive got a disco with a 4.6 and ive also got a landcruiser with a turbo 4.2D. Im interested in dropping the rangie 4.6 into the cruiser so whoever you get your bellhousing addapter off, let me know cos i want one!
Also if you want a few tips on beefing up the power and economy of your 4.2D ive been playing around with mine for years. Ive got about 21-23pound running through a garrett turbo at about 3100revs and increased the fuel and its VERY touchy but i can explain it if you want. all in all im getting about an extra 50-60Ks more out of a tank and i run 35inch tyres and it will fry them in third gear going up hill on the asphalt. (not bad for a diesel. lol)
also i suggest using a motec e48 ems, just a suggestion.
Let me know how you go.

BMW Diesel engine is not as tough as Toyota's engine, if I want to swap, I want to swap with more "trouble free" engine (if it runs ) but now I have to deal with this mess because I haven't done any research first
you are right!!! we are based in Kenya and do a lot off conversion.
The BMW Diesel in the Range Rover is total failure here! Fact!

Toyota 6 Zyl. Diesel will fit with gearbox and transfer from the VX
just change brackets and Propshaft . But note!! all these are really specialised jobs and make mainly sense were petrol fuel for example is too bad or not available.

also note!! the 4.2 toyota takes a lot off diesel. about 15l/100km in a P38

Sorry to be a doom merchant here. I wanted to do something similar quite some time ago with my late father's P38/BMW diesel.(Not Bombproof at all) Went into it at length. The problem is that the ECU has total control of everything on the vehicle not just the engine and gear box. If you are the equivilent of a rocket scientist and are a prof computer reprogrammer and feel confident you might get the interior light to come on !!! But that's about it!! Save yourself some money and refit a 5.0ltr engine from RPi or JE Engineering. Straight fit, key in and off you go. Honestly you are opening a can of worms and I am normally a positive thinker. Good luck !!!!
Hi just so you guys know I am converting a P 38 to diesel myself I am currently fitting a Shogun 2.8 Diesel engine I have overcome a lot of the problems already Which really isn't that many I get a little bit annoyed when I read up on these forms And here some of the things that people say Like it will cost thousands to do and don't bother as it is too difficult Well actually it is really very easy If you just slow down and take your time and have a good think about what you are doing And how are p38 Electrics work Honestly 90% of the electrics you don't even need to make your car work As many people don't even realise if you unplug the loom from the Ecuador the car still functions in every way On the engine Harness side of things There is many different plugs into the ECU I am plugged my ECU plug to the engine And as long as you have 12 V feed coming down the wiring loom to the ECU most of the stuff in the car will work The biggest problem you will have Is the crappy electronic gearbox Which you get rid of straightaway You get the old school range Rover gearbox Which has a kickdown cable And you take your original gearbox apart As you need the output shaft as they are different Then all you need To do is Bolts the whole Wiring Loom to your diesel Which you will need out of the Loom Is the alternator wires Which does charging – Rev counter And you also need a power to run to the injection pump Which you can use the coil feed wires To do this Then your car will start and drive As it should As you have now done away with your electronic gearbox and gone fully hydraulic Meant to say you need to machine the driveshaft down in the gearbox To interchange the two output shafts but is not a problem Even if you get a few faults come up on the dashboard the car will still start And drive and be reliable As the computer will not be able to stop the car And if you have a pre-2000 range Rover It doesn't matter how many faults are on the dash As long it is not anything to do with ABS It will not be an MOT failure You can call me during work hours Nine till six If you have more questions Many thanks Keith call 07886669198
